HTC relaunched its smartphone line in Pakistan a few months ago. Since then we have seen a few more devices added into the lineup and we even unboxed and reviewed one, i.e. HTC Desire 628 Dual-SIM.
HTC One X9 is one of the top performers for HTC’s lineup in Pakistan. It was launched alongside the initial few devices back in May. The device comes with some really good specs and a gorgeous design. Let’s take a brief look at the HTC One X9 holds for the consumers.
In The Box
HTC One X9 comes with a slightly large box, something you don’t see with many other OEM these days. Just like other HTC devices, the box comes wrapped in a transparent plastic film. Wrapped alongside are a few cards and a booklet.
You get a card confirming HTC Damage Protection Warranty for HTC One X9. Details regarding the warranty and a Zong free internet voucher.
Zong is by the way giving away 6GB of free data over a six month period (1GB per month) with the HTC One X9. Open the box and you also get a Rs. 500 FoodPanda voucher, so more goodies for free.
The rest of the box comes with standard stuff; you get a user manual, a pair of high quality HTC earphones, a microUSB 2.0 charging cable and a 1.5A charger.
Looks and Build Quality
The Taiwanese manufacturer is known for their premium unibody metal designs, and the HTC One X9 is no exception. It comes with a metal build, which the company claims to have silk like feel. In reality, the premium craftsmanship is clearly visible, though it feels like metal and not silk.
With a screen size of 5.5-inch and the relatively large bezels at the top and bottom, you can’t expect the phone to be easy to hold. The metal build also adds to the slipperiness, as does the phones weight, which comes in at 170 grams.
The weight and heft of the HTC one X9 makes it pretty noticeable while holding it. However in terms of grip, the 8mm thickness does help and so does the curved back. Overall, the phone is good to the touch and if you like big phones, you would feel right at home with HTC one X9.
The front of the phone features the display along with dual front facing BoomSound speakers. Below the display you get three capacitive keys, i.e. Home, Task Switcher and Back. Above the display there are a couple of sensors and a noticeably large selfie camera.
The front glass of HTC one X9 seamlessly blends into the sides thanks to the use of the curved Gorilla Glass.
The right side of the HTC one X9 features the power buttons and volume rocker. The power button is nicely textured so the user doesn’t get confused between this and the volume buttons. Above those, you get a flap which holds the primary SIM card slot.
The other side of the phone is pretty blank and only features a single flap which holds both, the secondary SIM and the micro SD card.
The bottom of the HTC one X9 features the microUSB 2.0 slot while sitting at the right at the centre of the top is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The back of the phone comes with a 13MP primary camera along with a dual LED flash setup. There’s HTC branding at the back of the phone of the phone as well.
Since the phone has a unibody metal build, you cannot access the 3,000 mAh battery underneath. The phone comes in Carbon Gray, Opal Silver, Topaz Gold, Cooper Rose colours, so you get plenty of choices in terms of the looks.
Under the Hood
HTC One X9 was announced last year and was released in Pakistan half a year later. While the device stands at a premium price point, it does come with the specs which were considered good till last year.
HTC went with an octa-core 64-bit MediaTek Helio X10 chipset, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
The processing package of HTC one X9 compares with the crop of Snapdragon 810 devices and last year’s flagships so you can rest assured that the device has more than enough power to keep you going for the next few years.
One X9 features a 5.5-inch 1080p Super LCD screen, its HTC’s proprietary screen technology with high contrast, good colours and an IPS panel. The Full HD resolution boils down to a pixel density of 401 PPI, which is more than enough for a device this size.
The camera department on HTC one X9 features a 13MP f/2.0 OIS camera with autofocus, Pro mode with manual controls, HTC Zoe and 4K video recording. The front shooter is a 5MP one with f/2.8 aperture and is capable of recording at 1080p.
HTC One X9 comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow which keeps things smooth and fast. You also get HTC baked features thanks to the Sense UI.
HTC one X9 is powered by a decent 3,000 mAh battery which should be sufficient to get you through a day of heavy use. Of course, you can always recharge with the bundled fast charger which can power up the device very quickly.
The former HTC flagship also comes with a host of connectivity options. You get everything from LTE support, dual-band WiFi ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS with GLONASS and BDS, plus any more options you get from modern day devices.
From our first look at the device, One X9 speaks premium, fluidity and quality. HTC also packs in loads of goodies like the free vouchers and damage protection warranty.
While the device is priced at the high-end of the spectrum, the freebies plus the performance on offer, force us to consider the device at its given price point.
We are still going through the device and will have a review ready within the next few days. When that’s done, only then can we comment on the device. But as far as the specs go, One X9 has all its bases covered so we are hopeful that the device will have enough on offer to compete against its competitors in the Pakistani market.
